About Us
For over 30 years, Value Homes has been helping locals turn their dream homes into reality. Founded in 1992 by award-winning builder Ralf Dutton, the company was built on a simple promise: deliver quality homes, real value, and a building experience that’s as stress-free as possible.
Born and raised in Cairns, Ralf understands the lifestyle, the climate, and what makes living in Far North Queensland unique. After gaining his open building licence in 1986 and his Real Estate Agents Licence in 1992, Ralf set out to create a company that offered more than just bricks and mortar—he wanted to build homes people truly love living in.
Ralf’s career in the building industry spans more than five decades. He began in 1969 as a Trainee Draftsman, later moving into Contract Drafting before stepping up to manage a local building company from 1980 to 1992. During that time, he gained hands-on experience across every stage of construction, design, and project management—skills that continue to shape the way Value Homes operates today.
One of Ralf’s most formative experiences came in 1976, when he worked in Darwin helping to rebuild the city after Cyclone Tracy. That time cemented his passion for creating homes that are strong, practical, and perfectly suited to the local environment.
Over the years, Ralf has also represented the building industry at local, state, and national levels, helping to shape standards and best practices that benefit homeowners across Australia.
Today, Value Homes is a thriving, locally owned company with a growing team of passionate designers, builders, and support staff. Together, we’ve delivered hundreds of project homes across Cairns and surrounding regions, working closely with clients to create homes that suit their lifestyle, budget, and vision.
